There are two very different things an ad blocker can do. The first is block: prevent ads from loading or hide them on the page. Almost all blockers do this. The second is stay invisible: make sure the website cannot tell a block happened. Very few blockers do this.
The test above runs the same kind of probes that anti-adblock scripts use: it plants a bait ad element on the page and checks if it gets hidden, and tries to load known ad network resources and checks if they get stopped. If your blocker reacts to these probes in a measurable way, a website can detect it, and that is exactly what triggers the "disable your ad blocker" walls.
